I met some of the folk from the Energy Saving Trust yesterday. They brought along one of their senior surveyors who walked us around a neighbour's house telling us what to look for in terms of improvements for energy saving (more on this in a later post).
They told us about their strategy to develop Low Carbon Communities. This involves getting sections of the community (perhaps based around a church, or in our case a distinct and discrete region of London) to get together to cut energy loss. The EST offers support with specialists and printed information. Of most interest was the potential to get discounted purchasing on new equipment - and here we are talking about expensive items like boilers rather than the low and mid priced items available on My Greener Home.
Many people want to go green, but let themselves fall at the first barrier (no time, don't know how or what to do, etc.). Providing an economic incentive (e.g. get a new boiler which is energy efficient cheaper than if you went into your local gas showroom) may tip the balance in favour of activity.
