We have decided to have solar panels installed on our house (a small terraced house with a south facing sloping roof - facing away from the front of the house). We have found an installer who is asking £4,000 (which is the right ball park) so next steps....
We live in Lambeth (a borough in South London) and Lambeth doesn't give any grants towards solar panels. Shame! Camden gives up to £1,500 towards this type of project. We will have to settle with the £400 given out by the Department of Trade and Industry’s “Low Carbon Buildings” programme (LCBP).
Then our house is Grade 2 listed and the listed building planning permission will take 8 weeks at a minimum without any guarantee of approval. This process needs streamlining and making fairer. Maybe a word with Boris is called for...
