The cheek of the gas companies....

The chart shows the price of oil over the last two years. It rose from $60 per barrel to nearly $150 per barrel. But we are now sitting back at just over $70 per barrel.

Since the oil price and gas price are closely linked, this explains why the cost of any method of heating your home has gone up (be it gas, electricity, or oil fired boiler).

What niggles me is seeing buses with advertisements for British Gas (as an example) saying they will guarantee your gas price for the longest time. In fact British Gas is so kind, they will fix your gas price until 2012. The utility companies have been quick to push up the price of domestic oil and gas as the price of oil rose, but none (that I know of) have dropped the price now that we are back to September 2007 levels of oil price. I expect, and they probably do too, that the Government will apply pressure for prices to come back down now that the oil price has fallen. So they are pushing hard to get people to lock in at this high level for the next four years.

What a cheek. But clever too.....
